    Hardwood Flooring Installation Memphis TN

Nothing matches the warmth, character, and long-term value of real hardwood floors. Knockout Interiors installs solid and engineered hardwood throughout Memphis and the Mid-South — from classic red oak to wide-plank hickory and hand-scraped walnut. Every installation starts with proper subfloor prep and acclimation so your floors perform for decades in the Memphis climate.

Hardwood Species We Install in Memphis

The species you choose affects the look, hardness, and cost of your floors. Our showroom in Millington carries hundreds of samples so you can compare grain patterns, stain colors, and plank widths side by side. We also bring samples to your home so you can see how they look in your actual lighting.

    • -Red and White Oak — The most popular hardwood in the Memphis market. Available in 3" to 7" widths with dozens of stain options. Janka hardness of 1,290 (red) to 1,360 (white) makes it durable for high-traffic living areas.
    • -Hickory — The hardest domestic species at 1,820 Janka. Natural color variation creates a rustic, textured look that hides wear well. A strong choice for active Memphis households with kids and pets.
    • -Walnut — Rich chocolate tones with a softer feel at 1,010 Janka. Best for formal living rooms, dining rooms, and master bedrooms where traffic is moderate.
    • -Maple — Light, consistent grain with a clean modern look. Takes light stains well and works in contemporary Memphis homes.
    • -Engineered Hardwood — Multi-layer construction with a real hardwood veneer on top. Dimensionally stable over concrete slabs and in areas with higher moisture — ideal for Memphis homes built on slab foundations.

Why Hardwood Performs in Memphis Homes

Memphis humidity is the number one concern homeowners raise about hardwood. The answer is proper acclimation and installation. We store your hardwood in your home for 5-7 days before installation so it adjusts to your interior humidity level. Combined with a moisture barrier on the subfloor and correct expansion gaps at every wall, your hardwood will stay flat and tight through Memphis summers and winters.

For homes with concrete slab foundations — common in Bartlett, Cordova, and newer Memphis developments — we recommend engineered hardwood with a plywood or floating installation method. It gives you the look and feel of solid hardwood with superior stability over concrete.

    Our Hardwood Installation Process

Every hardwood project follows the same quality sequence:

    • 1.Free in-home measurement — We measure every room, note subfloor type and condition, and identify any prep work needed.
    • 2.Material selection — Choose species, width, stain, and finish at our showroom or with samples in your home. Joanna Allen provides design guidance at no extra charge.
    • 3.Subfloor preparation — Old flooring removal, leveling, moisture testing, and barrier installation.
    • 4.Acclimation — Hardwood is stored in your home 5-7 days to equalize with your interior environment.
    • 5.Installation — Nail-down, glue-down, or floating method depending on your subfloor. Transitions, trim, and thresholds installed for a finished look.
    • 6.Final walkthrough — We inspect every board with you before the job is complete.

Hardwood vs. LVP: Which Is Right for Your Memphis Home?

This is the most common question we hear. Both are excellent — the right choice depends on your priorities. Hardwood offers unmatched beauty, adds resale value, and can be refinished multiple times over its lifespan. Luxury vinyl plank costs less, is 100% waterproof, and handles scratches better.

Many Memphis homeowners use both: hardwood in the living room, dining room, and bedrooms, and LVP in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. We help you plan the combination that makes sense for your home and budget.
